Husqvarna S26 Vacuum Filters: Complete Guide to Cleaning and Replacement

Husqvarna S26 Vacuum Filters: Complete Guide to Cleaning and Replacement

Your Husqvarna S26 works hard collecting dust, but its filters need attention too. Knowing which filters your vacuum uses, how to care for them and when to replace them helps you keep your equipment ready for the next job.

This guide covers the S26 primary filter, its two HEPA filters, replacement part numbers, routine care and common problems. We also explain why, at Paddle Wholesale, we recommend replacing the complete filter set when the primary filter reaches the end of its service life—particularly when it is damaged or the condition of the HEPA filters is uncertain.

What filters does the Husqvarna S26 use?

The S26 uses one primary filter and two HEPA filters. These perform different jobs within the filtration system.

Filter Quantity Purpose
Primary filter, also called the main filter or pre-filter 1 First filtration stage before the HEPA filters
HEPA filters 2 Final fine-particle filtration stage

The S26 needs two HEPA cartridges, so check quantities carefully when ordering individual filters or a replacement pack.

The primary filter

The primary filter is the first filter to consider when planning routine maintenance. However, its appearance alone does not tell you the condition of the entire filtration system.

A damaged filter or poorly seated seal can allow dust to bypass this stage. Replacing a filter also means checking how it fits: a new filter cannot perform properly if its sealing surfaces are damaged or it is installed incorrectly.

The HEPA filters

The two HEPA filters provide the final filtration stage. They should be treated as essential parts of the system, rather than optional accessories.

It is also important to distinguish between a filter’s rating and the classification of the complete vacuum. Installing an H13 replacement filter does not, by itself, establish the certification or condition of the whole machine.

Which S26 filter part numbers should you check?

These are useful references when identifying replacements:

Component Husqvarna reference
S26 conical primary filter 590430201 / 590 43 02-01
S-Line HEPA filter reference 590429801 / 590 42 98-01

The manufacturer’s S-Line accessories catalogue lists these references for the S26. Older manuals can show different numbers, so match your machine version and existing filter before purchasing.

When ordering, check:

  • Your machine’s model and identification plate.
  • The reference on the existing filter.
  • The replacement filter’s dimensions and mounting arrangement.
  • Whether the listing includes one filter or a complete set.

If you are unsure, send Paddle Wholesale a photo of your machine plate and existing filter so we can help identify the correct replacement.

How to clean and care for S26 filters

Use the machine’s filter-cleaning system according to its operator’s manual. Husqvarna recommends cleaning before changing the collection bag, at the end of work and when suction becomes poor.

For a removed primary filter, the manual permits low-pressure water from the inside out. Do not strike it, use compressed air or pressure-wash it. Follow the instructions supplied with your particular replacement filter.

Do not wash or attempt to clean the HEPA filters. Husqvarna directs users to replace them and avoid damaging or touching the internal filter media.

Keeping a simple maintenance record is useful. Record filter installation dates, any damage found and changes in performance. This makes future replacement decisions easier than relying on memory.

When should S26 filters be replaced?

Husqvarna lists recommended replacement intervals of six months for the primary filter and twelve months for the HEPA filters. These are maintenance guidelines, not a promise that every filter will remain serviceable for that period.

Plan your maintenance around your actual work. A vacuum used regularly for demanding dust collection deserves closer attention than one used occasionally.

Do not judge filtration performance only by how strong the suction feels. Airflow and filtration integrity are different things: satisfactory suction alone does not prove that a filter is undamaged.

Should you replace one filter or buy an S26 filter pack?

At Paddle Wholesale, we strongly recommend considering the complete set when the primary filter reaches the end of its service life—especially if it is damaged or you cannot confirm the condition of both HEPA filters.

Here is why.

If the primary filter or its seal has allowed dust to bypass it, the HEPA filters may have received an increased dust load. Installing a new primary filter will not remove dust already trapped in those HEPA filters.

Equally, fitting new HEPA filters while leaving a damaged primary filter in place does not address the original problem.

For the S26, a complete replacement set means:

  • One primary filter.
  • Two HEPA filters.

Replacing all three gives you a clear starting point for future maintenance. It also avoids replacing one component and then discovering that another filter still needs attention.

This is our practical recommendation, rather than a rule that every individual filter replacement requires a complete set. Replacing one filter can be appropriate when the remaining filters have been assessed and confirmed serviceable.

Paddle’s S26 filter pack combines one genuine Husqvarna primary filter with two Paddle H13 HEPA replacement filters.

Why is my S26 losing suction?

Filters are one possible cause, but check the complete system. Husqvarna’s troubleshooting guidance also identifies blocked or damaged hoses, a loose top cover, defective gaskets and problems with the collection bag.

If dust comes from the motor exhaust, stop using the machine and arrange inspection: the manual identifies incorrect filter assembly or damaged filtration as possible causes.

Before purchasing parts, note when the problem started. Was it immediately after changing a filter or bag, or did performance gradually decline? Give those details to your supplier or service technician to help narrow down the cause.

Replacing filters safely

Switch off and unplug the extractor before changing filters. Use the protective equipment specified in the manual, contain used filters in suitable bags and dispose of contaminated material correctly.

Prepare the correct replacements before opening the machine. Check the sealing surfaces and mounting points, and follow the installation instructions for your particular model.

Frequently asked questions

Does an S26 filter pack include both HEPA filters?

Check the contents of the listing. Paddle’s S26 pack includes one genuine Husqvarna primary filter and two Paddle H13 HEPA replacement filters.

Are Paddle HEPA filters genuine Husqvarna filters?

The HEPA filters in our pack are Paddle H13 HEPA replacement filters. The primary filter is genuine Husqvarna. We identify each brand clearly so you know what you are purchasing.

Can I order a filter using only a part number?

A part number is a useful starting point. Also confirm the machine version, dimensions and mounting arrangement, particularly if the machine has an older filter or has previously been modified.

Will replacing the complete filter set solve every suction problem?

No. A filter pack addresses the filters; it will not repair an air leak, damaged hose or another mechanical fault. Identify the cause before assuming new filters will solve the problem.
